At RBC Global Asset Management (GAM), creating a positive social impact is at the heart of our purpose. As we celebrate International Women’s Day 2025, we continue to work to take down barriers that hold women back from advancing in the workplace. This year we’re striving to make a difference by reaching out to university students and opening the doors for more women to enter the industry.
1. Women in Finance event
On March 25th, women from three university finance clubs will get a close-up look at potential career paths for women in the financial services industry, particularly at RBC GAM. Highlights will include:
A panel discussion with women leaders in GAM
A networking discussion where attendees can connect with RBC GAM professionals and fellow students, expand their industry knowledge, and build meaningful relationships.
Students will attend from three different club/societies: York Finance Club, Schulich Women in Leadership - Graduate Chapter, and the Ted Rogers Finance Society.
2. Ivey Women in Asset Management Program (WAM)
WAM was founded in 2022 by Ivey Business School (Western University, London, Ontario) and industry partners, including RBC GAM. The program aims to spur women’s interest in the world of asset management by introducing them to diverse career paths. WAM also gives female-identifying students the skills and knowledge they need to find work opportunities in the industry.
The WAM program is the first and only of its kind in Canada. Over 120 women have completed the program over the past 3 years. The feedback so far has been overwhelmingly positive. Here are just a few testimonials from our 2024 WAM alumnae:
"The WAM program was an incredible experience. I learned valuable skills, made great friends, and got to experience a once- in- a- lifetime internship opportunity in asset management.”- Claire Uszkay, 2024 alumnae
“The WAM Program gave me exposure to various different career paths in asset management that I was unaware of prior to the start of the program. Going forwards this has allowed me to make more informed decisions when it comes to my career in the finance industry.” - Julia Peck 2024 alumnae
“The WAM program is an incredible opportunity that bridges the gap between education and real-world experience. It provided a supporting environment to develop essential technical skills, financial and industry knowledge, soft skills, and confidence.” - Zoe Milne 2024 alumnae
The program welcomed 50 interns across the country in 2024. Those at RBC GAM were able to experience many different aspects of our business. They worked to gather and evaluate data, analyze industries, prepare models and scenarios, and assess risks and opportunities.
WAM is open to second-year university students identifying as female from universities across Canada. The program is for students in non-business programs as well as those studying finance. We have had students from Health Sciences, Political Science, Engineering, Psychology, English Literature and more.
RBC GAM looks forward to welcoming our new cohort of interns for 2025 soon – and continuing to open new doors to new career opportunities for women.
